Update of Championship Challenge for Peter
The team at RSM Leeds completed their Championship Challenge for Peter at the beginning of May in true champion style!
They set out to run, walk and cycle 6,030 miles, the distance of each Huddersfield Town away match in memory of their friend and colleague Peter Whittaker, as Peter was a dedicated Town supporter. Their fundraising target was to raise a £1 for every mile, an ambitious £6030 in total!
We were absolutely thrilled to announce that they not only hit, but surpassed both their targets of miles and funds! They covered an incredible 6,724 miles in just 14 days and raised £7,465.61 plus £1,711.25 in gift aid, totalling an astonishing £9,7176.86 for the work of The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust in Peter’s name. This incredible achievement is clearly testament to the treasured name and memory of Peter Whittaker.
In line with Peter’s family’s wishes, these funds will be directed to the charity’s Jacquie Roeder Research Fund, to support our ground-breaking research at Huddersfield University, led by Dr Nik Georgopoulos.
We are delighted to share some images with you from the RSM Leeds Championship Challenge for Peter along with some special words from Diane Brear, Colleague of Peter Whittaker.
“The pictures capture the team spirit and the lengths that people went to in order to celebrate Peter’s memory – with some colleagues actually cycling or running to local football venues. The whole experience was inspirational, emotional and so rewarding.”
A huge thank you once again to all those who took part and contributed in Peter's name.
Earlier this year, staff at RSM Leeds sadly lost their friend and colleague, Peter Whittaker, after he had been diagnosed with a rare sinus cancer last summer.
In tribute to Peter, the team are running, walking and cycling 6,030 miles, the distance of each Huddersfield Town away match for their Championship Challenge as Peter was an enthusiastic, longstanding Huddersfield Town supporter and season ticket holder.
In line with Peter’s family’s wishes, the team at RSM Leeds are raising funds for the charity’s Jacquie Roeder Research Fund, to support our ground-breaking research at Huddersfield University, led by Dr Nik Georgopoulos. Nik and the team have identified a potential new form of cancer treatment based on the molecule CD40, which destroys cancer cells without harming healthy cell tissue. This research could lead to a new, kinder form of cancer treatment without the devastating side-effects that arise with many current treatments, meaning money raised in Peter’s name will have a long lasting impact for other cancer patients.
